Chef Ford Fry Set to Expand Superica with First Triangle Location

7/31/18

Fry’s popular Tex-Mex restaurant joins anchor Wegmans and is first in much anticipated lifestyle, retail and restaurant lineup at Cary’s Fenton

Columbia Development announced today that Atlanta-based chef Ford Fry will open the first Triangle location of his acclaimed Tex-Mex spot Superica at Fenton, the 92-acre mixed-use development currently underway in Cary, North Carolina. This is the first restaurant to be announced for Fenton, as leasing efforts, led by industry veterans Ron Pfohl and Dotan Zuckerman, gain momentum.

Fry is the mastermind behind 13 of Atlanta’s hottest restaurants. This will be his first foray into the Triangle market and Superica’s third location in North Carolina. The first Superica in Charlotte opened earlier this year in the Design Center in South End, and the city’s second location is set to open in Strawberry Hill in early 2019.

“Fenton will bring premier dining experiences to the Triangle by attracting an array of chef-driven concepts from regional and national chefs with a broad range of food genres and price points,” said Pfohl. “Fry’s Superica delivers style, personality and inspired culinary experiences that align perfectly with what we intend to accomplish with Fenton. Bringing on Superica as the first in a line of premier lifestyle shopping and dining really sets the standard for what Fenton will be, and we look forward to sharing more first-to-market concepts in the coming months.”

Ford Fry Restaurants is expected to open the doors to its 5,500-square-foot taco, fajita and enchilada haven in Cary in 2020, upon the completion of Phase I of construction at Fenton.

At Superica, Texas natives Fry andChef Kevin Maxey pay homage to the Tex-Mex playbook classics and more evolved dishes, such aswood-grilled fajitasandshrimp tacos, always served withjust-made flour tortillas. In true Texas-style, locally produced spirits, agave spirits and house-made margaritas will round out the adventurous wine and cocktail list as guests enjoy the sounds of Willie, Waylon and Outlaw Country.

“I’ve always enjoyed visiting the Raleigh/Cary area, and appreciate being in such great company with the retailers and restaurants planned across Fenton,” said Fry.

In January of this year, Columbia Development received unanimous approval from the Cary Town Council to rezone 92 acres of undeveloped land for Fenton. The Wegmans-anchored community will offer approximately two and a half million square feet of Class A office, street-level retail, restaurant, hotel and luxury multifamily space.

As leasing efforts ramp up, the Fenton team has been traveling the country meeting with best-in-class retailers, restaurateurs, entertainment operators and potential partners. With Pfohl and Zuckerman leading the way, the retail leasing team has secured a commitment from Wegmans and an array of first-class retailers and restauranteurs, to be announced over the next several months. The Fenton merchandising strategy includes best-in-class national, regional and local retailers; a boutique movie theater that offers a luxury movie-going experience; an array of chef-driven dining experiences; a unique retail concept featuring a collection of online retailers; and, premier wellness offerings.

“Street-level retail and dining experiences will play a critical role in activating the other components at Fenton, creating a contemporary and energetic place for office tenants, residents at our multifamily communities, hotel visitors and the Triangle community,” said Pfohl. “As Cary’s premier mixed-use destination, Fenton will not only provide the community with incredible shopping and dining experiences - it will also drive economic growth and draw a high-quality pool of employers and talent to the area. We have seen tremendous interest from local and national retailers, and we look forward to sharing our progress as we continue to reach milestones in Fenton’s development.”
