Great American Snacks Inc. will be laying off 84 employees at its facility in Monroe, North Carolina, according to a letter to the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Great American Snacks said in the letter that it will begin laying off employees Sept. 15, or within two weeks after that date. The company is permanently closing its Monroe facility.

To minimize the impact of the layoffs, the company said it will offer severance benefits to all affected employees.

Great American Snacks notified the Department of Commerce of the upcoming layoffs in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires companies to give a 60-day public notice of mass layoffs.

Employees at the Monroe facility are not represented by a union, so they will not be able to use seniority to bump employees at other Great American Snacks facilities out of their positions.

The company manufactures frozen snack and appetizer products for restaurants, supermarkets, institutions and more. Great American Snacks makes products under its own brand, along with making Wahoo Appetizers and Pecos Valley Farms products.

Great American Snacks is a subsidiary of Terrace, Illinois-based McCain Foods USA Inc. It was formed September 2016 after McCain acquired Great American Appetizers Inc.

North Carolina has seen 7,132 employees laid off through WARN notices in 2018. North Carolina’s 2018 WARN summary can be found here.
