New York Community Bancorp (NYCB) has been one of the worst performing US regional banks over the past 12 months. As shown below, it has underperformed the US Regional Banks Index (KRE) by more than 30%. Given the recent underperformance and the bank's attractive dividend yield, NYCB remains a hotly debated stock.
