Probiotic Bread comes to Charlotte

4/30/18

Orlando Baking Company, a 146-year-old Cleveland, Ohio bakery that pioneered probiotic bread in the United States, has rolled out its "True Grains®" line of healthy and flavorful breads in the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham markets.

The True Grains (www.TrueGrainsBread.com) line features five different 100% whole grain probiotic breads, bursting with flavor and loaded with nutritional goodness. The line includes:

SEED'LICIOUS® -- An innovative whole grain bread textured with a healthy blend of flax, sunflower, sesame, chia and millet seeds and baked with wholesome ingredients including fiber, omega-3 and probiotic cultures. (This flagship bread has been recognized on the nationally syndicated "Dr. Oz Show" as a nutritional breakthrough in food choices containing probiotics.)

PURPLE WHEAT RAISIN -- A sweet, nutty tasting low-fat whole grain bread that contains antioxidants (the same nutrients that are found in blueberries). The antioxidants occurring naturally in the wheat give this bread a naturally rich purple hue.

HONEY WHEAT -- A distinctive whole grain bread "sweetened by nature" with honey and raisin juice.

CHIA SEED -- A delicious whole grain bread baked with sprouted wheat and rich in antioxidants and omega-3, an effective heart nutrient which promotes cardiovascular health while supporting brain and eye development throughout one's lifetime.

HONEY HEMP -- A flavorsome whole grain bread made with hemp seeds, a great source of proteins and amino acids.

Nick Orlando, Vice President at Orlando Baking Company, noted that his company has been focused on offering innovative breads that meet the ever-changing demands of consumers who are increasingly watching what they eat. "We're very excited to roll out our True Grains line through Harris Teeter supermarkets and offering a variety of delicious bread choices to health-conscious consumers in this market who seek better nutrition and improved lifestyles," he said.

The True Grains line of probiotic bread was first created in 2011 in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic, ranked among the nation’s top two hospitals by U.S. News and World Report and an international leader in the healthcare industry.

All True Grains breads are distinguished by the green "Go!Well" seal on the package which means they have been certified by Cleveland Clinic nutrition experts as meeting strict nutritional guidelines per serving as recommended by Cleveland Clinic Wellness (see www.ClevelandClinicWellness.com/Pages/GoWell.htm). The Cleveland Clinic Go!Well core criteria includes:

Only 100% Whole Grain.

Minimal Saturated Fat. Less than four grams of saturated fat per serving.

No Trans Fat. Zero grams of trans fat.

Minimal Added Sugars and Syrups. Less than four grams of added sugars and syrups per serving.

Minimal Sodium. Less than 800mg of sodium per serving.

The probiotics market is expected to surpass $65 billion by 2024, as reported by Global Market Insights, Inc., which states that increasing functional food demand accompanied by a rise in nutritional benefits is currently driving the market. Probiotics have been found to improve health and promote a stronger immune system, and True Grains breads are specially formulated with probiotic cultures that aid in digestive health.

Roxanne B. Sukol, M.D., a specialist in preventive medicine at Cleveland Clinic states, that “there is strong evidence that shows the use of probiotics is effective in fighting diarrhea, constipation, ulcerative colitis, sinus inflammation, eczema and allergies to dairy products.”

True Grains breads regularly retail for $5.49 per loaf, and are located in the freezer section at all Harris Teeter supermarkets in Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham. Harris Teeter is promoting the True Grains line with a $4.99 per loaf rollout special that runs through the first week of May.
