Dean & Deluca Has Closed Three Charlotte Locations, Laying Off Over 100

Dean & Deluca Inc. has permanently closed its three Charlotte locations resulting in 106 layoffs, according to a filing with the N.C. Department of Commerce.

The 73 employees at the 6903 Phillips Place Court location were permanently laid off April 2. According to the filing, none of the employees have a collective bargaining representative. None of the employees have bumping rights.

The company is also permanently closing its Charlotte locations at 201 S. Tryon Street — resulting in 17 layoffs — and — 7804 Rea Road — resulting in 16 layoffs. These layoffs were effective April 5.

Dean & Deluca is an American chain of grocery stores selling gourmet food. It is headquartered in Wichita, Kansas. The first market was established in New York City’s SoHo district in 1977.

In the United States it has locations in New York, Washington, D.C., California, Hawaii and Kansas. It has expanded internationally to Japan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, as well as other Asian locations.

Due to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies are required to submit WARN notices to the state Department of Commerce to announce pending layoffs.

So far in 2018, more than 3,700 North Carolina workers have lost their jobs through layoffs accounted by WARN notices.
