Peoples Bancorp Raises Compensation For Top Officers

Peoples Bancorp Inc. CEO Lance A. Sellars saw a 1.5 percent increase in total compensation for the company’s 2017 fiscal year due to an increase in his bonus, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Sellars’ total compensation for 2017 was over $465,000, up from $458,000 in 2016. His bonus increased to $55,000 in 2017 from $50,000 in 2016. His total compensation is now what it was in 2015 after declining 1.5 percent in 2016.

The CEO’s salary for 2017 was $319,185, unchanged from his 2016 salary. He was not given any stock awards in 2017 or 2016. In 2015, he was awarded almost $40,000 in stock awards.

Sellers has about 20,000 shares in outstanding equity awards worth almost $495,000, in addition to a pension valued at over $430,000.

Chief Financial Officer A. Joseph Lampron Jr. and Chief Operating Officer William D. Cable also saw increases in total compensation. Lampron made about $385,000, while Cable earned about $304,000 in 2017. Neither Lampron nor Cable received stock awards in 2017.

In 2017, Lampron made about $15,000 more than he did in 2015. Cable made about $3,000 less in 2017 than he did in 2015.

Lampron and Cable both own about 14,000 shares in outstanding equity awards worth almost $355,000.

Net earnings per share for the bank rose to $1.69 in 2017 from $1.50 in 2016. The bank’s book value rose to $19.34 in 2017 from $18.03 in 2016.

Peoples Bancorp of North Carolina Inc. was formed in 1999 to serve as a holding company for Peoples Bank. Peoples Bank was founded in 1912 and operates 20 offices in the Catawba Valley, as well as locations in Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham and Winston-Salem.

The bank’s annual meeting will be held Thursday, May 3, at 11 a.m. Eastern time, at the Catawba Country Club, located at 1154 Country Club Road, in Newton.

Peoples Bancorp shares were at $35.52 in Wednesday afternoon trading, up almost 1.3 percent from its opening price.
