Sonic Automotive’s Top Execs Saw Decreases in 2017 Compensation

Sonic Automotive Inc.’s top executives saw decreases in total compensation in 2017 due to a drop in non-equity plan compensation, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Executive Chairman and director O. Burton Smith’s compensation for 2017 totaled $4.38 million, down from $4.83 million in 2016. His non-equity plan compensation declined to $1.4 million in 2017 from $1.9 million in 2016.

Smith’s salary for 2017 was $1.26 million up 0.49 percent from his fiscal year 2016 base salary of $1.256 million.

CEO and President Scott Smith received total compensation of $3.85 million during the 2017 fiscal year, down from $4.2 million in 2016. His non-equity plan compensation declined to $1.2 million in 2017 from $1.65 million in 2016.

Scott Smith’s salary for 2017 was 1.09 million up .49 percent from his fiscal year 2016 base salary of 1.08 million.

Sonic Automotive, one of the largest automotive retailers in the United States, reported revenue of $9.9 billion in its 2017 fiscal year, an increase of 13 percent from the fiscal year 2016.

Sonic Automotive’s annual meeting will be April 25 at 2 p.m. Eastern time, at its corporate headquarters located at 4401 Colwick Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28211.

The company’s shares were $19.70 Thursday afternoon, and are down 0.76 percent.
