Rockwell Collins To Lay Off More Than 100

A Iowa-based aviation company will close a portion of its Winston-Salem location, laying off 119 employees, according to a filing with the North Carolina Department of Commerce on Tuesday.

Rockwell Collins Inc. will close part of its Seating Aftermarket Business, which is location on Fairchild Road. The positions of 20 salaried employees will be terminated, starting in June 2018 and ending in December 2018.

The other 99 employees, who are paid on an hourly basis, are covered under an agreement between the company and Teamsters Local Union No. 391. Rockwell Collins will provide bumping opportunities as written in the agreement, which could potentially impact the company’s Westpoint location.

These layoffs will begin May 1, 2018, and will continue until December 2018, according to the notice.

“However, various factors may still affect the time of employment terminations,” said Jan Vyse, director of human resources, in a letter to the Department of Commerce.

As of Thursday morning, Rockwell Collins has not yet posted any press release regarding the layoffs on its website.

The company operates in 14 countries and employs at least 16,000 in the United States.

Due to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies are required to submit WARN notices to the North Carolina Department of Commerce to announce pending layoffs.

So far in 2018, more than 1,700 North Carolina workers have lost their jobs through layoffs accounted by WARN notices.

The Rockwell Collins notice is the first in 2018 in Forsyth County, where Winston Salem is located.
