Premier Inc., a health care improvement company based in Charlotte, will cut 75 employees, costing the company $5.2 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The cuts are a result of the company’s ongoing efforts to “realign resources for future growth areas.” The 75 employees constitute 3 percent of the company’s workforce. The company expects the cuts to be completed by the end of February.

Most of the effected employees are from the company’s performance services segment.

The company decided on and committed to the course of action Friday. The expenses will be part of the first quarter report for the period ending March 31.

CEO Susan Devore said in a statement that the layoffs will result in a pre-tax cost savings approximating $13 million to $14 million annually.

Premier works with approximately 3,900 U.S. hospitals and more than 150,000 other provider organizations.

The layoffs came on the same day that Premier reported a second-quarter loss of $231 million due to a one-time re-measurement of deferred taxes resulting from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which increased income tax expense.

Net revenue for the quarter increased 15 percent to $411.4 million.

The company’s stock closed at $31.37 per share Monday, down 4.6 percent from its opening price of $32.91.
