Durham-based Baebies Raises $10M

11/1/17

Durham-based Baebies Inc., a company providing products for newborn screenings and pediatrics testing, has raised $10 million in Series B financing, according to the company.

The company completed the oversubscribed Series B funding round with BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd. contributing the bulk of the $10 million. BOE is a supplier of display and interface solutions.

Baebies also received funding from previous investors and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

“This has been an exciting year for Baebies: our team has grown to 60 talented employees, we have secured FDA clearance for our SEEKER screening platform and we recently announced a global distribution partnership with Labsystems Diagnostics to expand the product offerings in the newborn screening space,” said Baebies co-founder and CEO Richard West in a statement.

Baebies also announced it has shipped 2 million of its SEEKER tests, which was given approval by the Food and Drug Administration in February of this year.

SEEKER is the only screening product authorized to test for lysosomal storage disorders.

Baebies was founded in 2014 by West and current President Vamsee Pamula after the two led and sold Advanced Liquid Logic, a company grounded in research at Duke University, to Illumina Inc. for $96 million.
