Nucor Corp. has elected a retired Army general to its board, according to a Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.
Retired Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III as a director was elected to the board effective Sept. 18. Austin, whose term will expire in 2018 at the Charlotte-based steel company’s annual stockholder meeting, will work on the audit committee.
The 64-year-old retired from the U.S. Army in 2016 as a four-star general after 41 years of service, according to a press release from the corporation Thursday.
“We are honored to have General Austin join the Nucor board. He brings a unique and valuable perspective from his years of proven leadership and management during his distinguished military career,” Nucor CEO John Ferriola said in a statement. “He will be a strong addition to our board of directors and the Nucor team.”
Nucor is a steel manufacturing company mainly operating within the United States and Canada.
Nucor stock closed at $53.96 Thursday, slightly dropping from an opening stock price of $54.16.
