Lowe’s Coms. is permanently closing two of its North Carolina offices and laying off more than 500 employees, according to a notice filed with the state Commerce Department.
431 full- and part-time employees will be affected in the Mooresville location and 75 full-time workers will be affected at the Wilkesboro location.
The expected date of the first layoffs will be April 23.
Lowe’s is a home improvement company founded in 1946 with 2.355 store locations in the U.S., Mexico and Canada and 285,000 employees.
The locations of the permanent layoffs are at the customer service center at 1000 Lowe’s Boulevard in Mooresville and the Wilkesboro office at 1605 Curtis Bridge Road.
This news comes after recent other firings. In January, the company cut 2,400 full-time positions ranging from store employees, distribution centers, customer support centers and the corporate headquarters.
These are the second and third WARN ACT notice of the month, with 675 employees affected in North Carolina so far in February alone. In January, seven notices were filed affecting 629 employees.
Lowe’s stock closed Friday at $76.07, up 0.36 percent. The company is having its fourth quarter earnings conference call at 9 a.m. on March 1.
This notice was filed pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which must be filed 60 days in advance of a plant closing that affects more than 50 employees in a 30-day period or a mass layoff of at least 500 employees or between 50-499 employees if they make up at least one-third of the employer’s workforce.
