A startup liquor distiller based in Black Mountain, North Carolina, has filed to raise $183,000 from private investors.
Oak & Grist Distilling Co. wants to raise $183,750, and its filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission states that it wants to use $24,000 to pay a salary to President William Goldberg.
The company says its business strategy is to create small batch artisan spirits that honor the flavors found in the Appalachian region. It plans to buy its ingredients from local and regional farmers.
Goldberg has a degree from Warren Wilson College in sustainable agriculture and has worked as an assistant cheesemaker at the Looking Glass Creamery since 2011.
The filing can be found here. In 2015, Oak & Grist also filed to raise $700,000, according to this SEC filing.
Private companies similar to Oak & Grist Distilling, which rely on a Reg D exemption, aren’t required to register securities offerings with the SEC, but instead they must file a Form D electronically with the SEC after they sell the securities.
