Moore & Van Allen PLLC is pleased to announce that the Firm has been recognized with Legal Aid of North Carolina’s (LANC) 2016 Outstanding Firm Pro Bono Award. Moore & Van Allen (MVA) attorney E. Taylor Stukes accepted the award on the Firm’s behalf at the fifth annual Pro Bono Awards event, which was held at the Mint Museum Uptown.
MVA was recognized specifically for its Housing Rights Project, a pro bono initiative that enables attorney volunteers to help Charlotte-area tenants avoid homelessness and to secure safe, habitable homes. To date, the Firm’s efforts have helped approximately 200 local low-income families retain housing and prevent homelessness. More than 40 MVA attorneys have participated in this project, donating 3,500 hours in total.
“Safe and affordable housing is one of the most basic human needs. In Mecklenburg County, the need is staggering. Moore & Van Allen has been the most significant and consistent LANC partner in the housing area for almost seven years,” said LANC staff attorney Isaac Sturgill, who presented the award to MVA. “With the dedicated leadership of great lawyers like John Fagg and Taylor Stukes, MVA has built and sustained a unique pro bono practice with the Housing Rights Project. It is with great pride and tremendous gratitude that LANC presents this year’s Outstanding Firm Pro Bono Award to MVA.”
The fifth annual Pro Bono Awards event, hosted by Legal Services of Southern Piedmont, Legal Aid of North Carolina and the Council for Children's Rights, honored local attorneys and advocates who have donated their time and talents to local underserved children, families and individuals in legal crisis.
