Reaches new highs in number of students served and contact hours
The Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina is pleased to announce that the organization recorded record highs in number of students served and contact hours during the 2015-2016 academic year.
JAENC is a 41-year-old nonprofit that strives to empower young people to own their economic success. It facilitates partnerships between schools, sponsors and volunteers across an 18-county area to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy by teaching financial literacy, workforce development and entrepreneurship to students in grades K-12.
For 2015-2016, JAENC staff reported the following statistics:
· 650 volunteers (up 11 percent from 2014-2015)
· 440 classes offered (up 11 percent)
· 10,970 students served (a new record, up 10.5 percent)
· 60,840 instructional contact hours (a new record, up 11.5 percent)
JAENC also enjoyed financial support of $10,000 or greater from the following corporate sponsors:
· Wells Fargo – $25,000
· John Deere – $20,000
· SunTrust Foundation – $17,500
· MetLife - $17,500
· Duke Energy – $15,000
· Bank of America – $10,000
· Genworth Financial – $10,000
· John William Pope Foundation – $10,000
“I’m very proud of the tremendous growth that JAENC has experienced in the last few years,” said Clayton Dorn, board chair and division manager, East Coast District, for UPS. “Thank you to all of our wonderful staff, volunteers and sponsors.”
“As summer comes to an end and families begin gearing up for the start of the school year, we’re ramping up for another successful year,” said Bebee Bason Lee, president of JAENC. “For as little as $25, anyone can support a JA student and help prepare them to succeed in a global economy. We’re also always looking for volunteers to share their enthusiasm, life experiences, and willingness to teach important financial lessons.”
