Tim Griffin
RMF Engineering announced today that Tim Griffin, PE, CEM, LEED AP, principal in charge of the firm’s Raleigh, Charlotte and Atlanta offices, was inducted as chair of the International District Energy Association (IDEA) at the association’s annual conference on June 22. In his new role, Griffin will be responsible for leading board meetings, appointing committees and committee chairs, presiding over executive committee and association meetings, reporting on the affairs of the association on behalf of the board and reviewing the performance of IDEA’s president. Griffin takes on the chair position after serving as the vice chair for the association for the past year.
“For over 100 years, IDEA has been encouraging the use of reliable and efficient energy solutions to decrease the cost of energy systems and improve the environmental health of our planet,” said Griffin. “This is an important mission – one that I strongly believe in. And I am excited to be named chairman of IDEA with the goal of overseeing the continued success of IDEA’s mission over the next year.”
Griffin has been a member of IDEA for 18 years, previously serving as vice chair, second vice chair, board member, U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) liaison and technical chair. Griffin is a seasoned speaker and author who has written about district energy for American School & University Magazine and HPAC Engineering Magazine, and regularly contributes to IDEA’s quarterly publication, District Energy Magazine. He was also recently featured in an IDEA video discussing the benefits of Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal (PEER) certification; a USGBC program designed to measure and improve sustainable power system performance.
Griffin is the second RMF principal to be named chair of IDEA. He commented, “It’s rare to have two chairmen come from the same company, but RMF is invested in IDEA’s work to benefit the district energy industry. Our participation in IDEA over the years has expanded our skill sets, provided us with great learning and networking opportunities, and helped us advise our district energy clients in smart and strategic ways. It is always an honor to give back to an organization that has given so much to us.”
In his 19-year tenure at RMF Engineering, Griffin has helped develop the firm’s Raleigh, N.C. office into an award-winning team, counting Duke University, North Carolina State University and Georgia Tech among its clients. He has also overseen the establishment of successful offices in Charlotte, N.C. and Atlanta, GA.
Griffin earned his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and his master of business administration from Colorado State University.
